confessions of a shopaholic

As many other people – judging by the hoards of girls who went to see ‘Sex and the City the Movie’ (I had to wait 30 minutes to go the toilet after the film finished) – my life has not been the same since Sex and the City left. Honestly sometimes Carrie’s outfits were so good I wanted to cry (sorry for being a tad over dramatic but Patricia Field’s fashion intuition is unparalleled). Even now when I am feeling uninspired I drag out my trusty DVDs and watch Carrie and Charlotte – the pause and rewind buttons have now faded on my remote…. does that say a little about my social life? … Anyway Patricia Field strikes again with Confessions of a Shopaholic which is out March 12.
Now I know I am no ‘Patricia Field’, I haven’t smoked enough cigarettes to get the hoarse ‘darling’ out of my mouth, and also I am minus the red clown hair – doesn’t everyone always wonder how these amazing outfits come from someone who looks so random? – but I thought I would pick a few items which look like what Rebecca Bloomwood (to the uninitiated the character Isla Fisher plays) would wear. While the shots released of Isla from the film look particularly ‘out’ there and not that wearable, I have a feeling there may be something in the kitchy brights, gold hardware and colourful jackets and gloves. Indeed it is not a look for the fashion fainthearted but perhaps for the more cautious these ‘brights’ can be highlight pieces to brighten a miserable Melbourne day.
marcs scarf $49.95
Marcs have some lovely accent colours this winter in store. In winter in Melbourne it is always a struggle to find some colour! This scarf by Marcs is a bit pucci inspired, with its geometric, kaleidoscope of red, orange, pink and grey. Scarves this season seem to be either oversized or ‘mini me’ and teeny tiny - stewardess style. This Marcs ‘mini me’ scarf strikes me as something exactly like Rebecca Bloomwood would wear. Very ‘pucci-sque.
review purple satin shirt $189.95
While Isla Fisher’s dress is a lavin number and out of my price league, this Review item is similar in style and colour (apart from being a shirt ofcourse!). Review has a multitude of cute fashion shirts. I know I bought my first shirt from here. Their brand of lady style dressing is always classy and feminine. Review’s purple satin shirt is a little pricey for a shirt but if worn with a pencil skirt and some killers heels you will always be in style - very Alfred Mitchcock blond.
mng leather bag $159.95
This bag had just dropped into store when I found it. The sales assistant and I chatted about the matchings shoes - which are in the word of paris hilton are ‘ so hot right now’ but I was in love with this bag. I don’t believe it will be there long…
saba yellow leather gloves $79.00
When I saw Isla Fisher’s array of brightly coloured gloves I looked upon my boring black leather ones with dispair. Suddenly they just were not good enough! But where was I to find a pair of bright coloured gloves? Much to my atonishment I found this perfect pair unexpectedly when out shopping at Saba.
